Is your goal to appear authentic, engaging and natural?
If so, PLEASE move your hands when you talk!
As a global communications trainer, I can assure you people of all ethnicities gesture. It’s innate.
In fact, research tells us people who are blind from birth will gesture when they speak! Did you know, gesturing actually prompts clearer thinking and better defined ideas? Read more here:
“Gesticulation isn’t divorced from speech. It’s completely tied to your speech,” University of Chicago psychologist Susan Goldin-Meadow, one of the leading researchers in the field, told Science of Us in July. “It’s part of your cognition. It’s not just mindless hand-waving.”
Many people mistakenly think they need to restrain their physical demonstrative gesturing (talking with their hands) for fear of being distracting. Instead – they come across as stiff, rehearsed and robotic!
Follow your instincts and move your hands as you do in real life conversation.
You’ll be happy with the result!
